With empathy, compassion and respect, Knight Mills supports the Standing Rock Sioux tribe and it’s current movement to protect and preserve the water and sacred land of Standing Rock.
The Standing Rock Indian reservation crosses US states North and South Dakota, and since April it’s Native peoples have been protesting the Dakota Access pipeline which will transport approximately 470,000 barrels per day of sweet crude oil produced in North Dakota. Potential pipeline spills into the Missouri River may contaminate the drinking water supply of the Sioux tribe and pipeline construction will continue to destroy areas of historical, cultural and spiritual significance, thus violating Native American treaty rights.
It is the first time since the 1800’s that indigenous Native American communities have come together, with over 100 tribes from the seven warrior societies of the Lakota, Dakota and Nakota nations joining the protest at Cannon Ball, N.D, working together for a peaceful resolution. And beyond the Native Indian community, the Standing Rock protest has become a global Indigenous and spiritual movement, with Native support from around the world arriving at Standing Rock in solidarity against corporate power and greed. Among others, a Sami group from Norway and leaders from Amazonian and Aboriginal communities have joined their North American brothers and sisters at the front line, to honour and support this important movement and to remind the world that water and land is life.
The water is life’ art print is printed in beautiful full colour on 300gsm white matte board.
